Data Availability Policy

Data Availability Policy

ElectroSenses – Journal of Bioelectromagnetics, Environmental & Functional Medicine is committed to promoting transparency, reproducibility, and responsible data sharing in scientific research.

This policy applies to all research articles reporting original data.

1. Data Availability Statement

All manuscripts reporting original research must include a Data Availability Statement describing how the data supporting the findings of the study can be accessed.

The statement should specify:

  • Whether the data are publicly available
  • Where the data can be accessed (e.g. repository name and persistent identifier)
  • Any conditions or restrictions on access

2. Public Data Repositories

Where possible, authors are encouraged to deposit data in recognized public repositories appropriate to the discipline (e.g. general-purpose, institutional, or subject-specific repositories).

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Institutional repositories
  • Domain-specific repositories
  • General repositories providing persistent identifiers (e.g. DOI)

Authors should cite deposited datasets in the reference list where applicable.

3. Restricted or Sensitive Data

In cases where data cannot be made publicly available due to:

  • Ethical considerations
  • Participant privacy or confidentiality
  • Legal or regulatory restrictions

Authors must clearly state the reason for the restriction in the Data Availability Statement and describe under what conditions, if any, the data may be accessed (e.g. upon reasonable request and subject to approval).

4. Human Participant Data

For studies involving human participants, authors must ensure that data sharing complies with applicable data protection regulations and ethical approvals.

Data must be de-identified or anonymized prior to sharing, where possible. The journal does not require authors to share data in a manner that compromises participant privacy or violates consent agreements.

5. Software, Code, and Analytical Methods

Where applicable, authors are encouraged to make:

  • Custom software
  • Analytical code
  • Algorithms or scripts

available in public repositories or as supplementary material, to support reproducibility.

If code cannot be shared, authors should provide a clear explanation.

6. Data Integrity and Availability During Review

Authors may be requested to provide access to underlying data during peer review for editorial or reviewer assessment. Such data will be treated confidentially and used solely for evaluation purposes.

7. Editorial Assessment

Editors and reviewers may consider the completeness and clarity of the Data Availability Statement as part of the peer review process. Manuscripts lacking an appropriate statement may be returned to authors for revision.

8. Post-Publication Access

Data availability statements remain part of the published article. Authors are responsible for ensuring that data links and access conditions remain valid after publication, where applicable.
